Under Washington's leadership, the NNBL organized conferences, workshops, and resources to help Black entrepreneurs succeed in various industries. The organization also advocated for economic opportunities and fair treatment for African American businesses in a racially segregated society.

The NNBL played a crucial role in fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among Black business owners and promoting the economic viability of African American communities. Although the organization faced challenges and criticism, it made significant contributions to the economic empowerment of Black Americans and paved the way for future generations of Black entrepreneurs and business leaders.
