The National Negro Business League (NNBL) was founded in 1900 by Booker T. Washington, a prominent African American leader and educator. The organization was established to promote the economic advancement and empowerment of African Americans by encouraging entrepreneurship and business ownership.

The NNBL provided a platform for Black business owners to network, share resources, and gain support for their ventures. It also emphasized the importance of economic self-reliance and self-help within the Black community.

Under Washington's leadership, the NNBL grew rapidly and established chapters throughout the United States. The organization played a crucial role in helping African American entrepreneurs overcome the economic challenges they faced due to institutionalized racism and segregation.

The NNBL also advocated for civil rights and equal economic opportunities for African Americans. It encouraged Black consumers to support Black-owned businesses and promoted the idea of economic solidarity within the Black community.

Although the NNBL eventually disbanded in the mid-20th century, its legacy continued to inspire future generations of Black entrepreneurs and business leaders. The organization's efforts laid the groundwork for the development of Black business communities and the ongoing struggle for economic equality in America.
