The National Negro Business League (NNBL) was founded in 1900 by Booker T. Washington, a prominent African American educator, author, and leader. The organization aimed to promote the economic development and advancement of African American entrepreneurs, professionals, and business owners.

The NNBL encouraged self-reliance and economic empowerment within the Black community by providing resources, networking opportunities, and support for Black-owned businesses. It also sought to combat economic discrimination and promote economic independence for Black Americans in the face of systemic racism and barriers to financial success.

Under Washington's leadership, the NNBL grew to have chapters throughout the United States and played a significant role in fostering economic self-sufficiency and pride within the African American community. The organization also advocated for policies and initiatives that would support Black entrepreneurship and economic development.

The National Negro Business League was an important institution in the early 20th century for promoting Black economic empowerment and paving the way for future generations of African American business leaders and entrepreneurs.
