One notable figure in Black history is Bessie Coleman, who was known as "Brave Bessie" and "Queen Bess." She was the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license. Coleman faced racism and sexism as she pursued her passion for aviation in the early 20th century. She had to travel to France to attend flight school, as she was unable to find an American school that would accept her due to her race and gender. Despite numerous challenges, Bessie Coleman became a skilled aviator and went on to inspire other Black women to pursue careers in aviation. Her pioneering achievements paved the way for future generations of Black pilots and astronauts.
