One notable figure is Maynard Jackson, who became the first Black mayor of Atlanta in 1974. Another influential Black mayor is Harold Washington, who was elected as the first Black mayor of Chicago in 1983. Washington was a progressive leader who worked to improve race relations in the city and address issues of inequality and discrimination.

Other notable Black mayors include David Dinkins, who served as the first and only Black mayor of New York City from 1990 to 1993, and Keisha Lance Bottoms, who currently serves as the mayor of Atlanta.
