The French Open, also known as Roland Garros, has a rich history in Black tennis. One of the most notable achievements in Black history at the French Open was the victory of Althea Gibson in 1956. Gibson became the first Black player, male or female, to win a Grand Slam title when she won the women's singles championship at Roland Garros.

Another significant moment in Black history at the French Open came in 1990 when Yannick Noah, a French tennis player of Cameroonian descent, won the men's singles title. Noah's victory made him the first and only Black male player to win the French Open singles title to date.

In recent years, Black tennis players like Serena and Venus Williams have also made their mark at the French Open, with multiple victories in both singles and doubles events. Their success has continued to inspire a new generation of Black tennis players to pursue their dreams and make their mark on the sport.
