The first free Black republic in Black history is Haiti. Haiti formally declared its independence from France on January 1, 1804, making it the first independent Black-led country in the world. The Haitian Revolution, a successful slave rebellion against French colonial rule, led to the establishment of Haiti as a sovereign nation.

Under the leadership of Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and others, enslaved Africans and free people of color in Haiti fought for their freedom and equality, successfully overthrowing the colonial power and establishing a new nation based on principles of freedom, equality, and self-determination.

Haiti's independence and the success of the Haitian Revolution inspired and influenced liberation movements and struggles for freedom around the world. Haiti's achievement as the first free Black republic in Black history holds significant importance in the history of the African diaspora and the fight against colonialism and slavery.
