One significant African American-owned airline in Black history is Air Atlanta, also known as Future Aviation Professionals of America. Founded in 1979 by Michael and Thelma Hollis, Air Atlanta was based in Atlanta, Georgia, and operated charter flights primarily for corporate clients and sports teams.

Air Atlanta was notable for being one of the few Black-owned airlines in the United States at the time and for providing opportunities for African Americans in the aviation industry. Despite facing financial challenges and competition from larger airlines, Air Atlanta briefly thrived in the 1980s before ultimately ceasing operations in 1996.

The legacy of Air Atlanta and other African American-owned airlines highlights the entrepreneurial spirit and determination of Black aviation pioneers who overcame numerous obstacles to establish their presence in a predominantly white industry. These trailblazers played a significant role in breaking barriers and opening doors for future generations of Black aviators and airline professionals.
