One important African American-owned airline in Black history is Air Atlanta. Founded in 1984 by a group of Black investors led by entrepreneur Michael Hollis, Air Atlanta was one of the first major airlines owned and operated by African Americans. The airline provided passenger and cargo services primarily in the southeastern United States and the Caribbean.

Air Atlanta was a trailblazer in the aviation industry for its commitment to diversity and inclusion. It provided opportunities for Black pilots, flight attendants, and other aviation professionals to excel in their careers in an industry that was historically dominated by white individuals. Air Atlanta also played a significant role in promoting economic empowerment within the Black community by creating jobs and fostering entrepreneurship.

Although Air Atlanta faced financial challenges and eventually ceased operations in the early 1990s, its legacy as a pioneering African American-owned airline remains significant in Black history. The airline served as a symbol of Black excellence and achievement in the aviation industry, inspiring future generations of African American entrepreneurs and aviation professionals.
